2nd March Patricia Duff, Archaeolink - Eleusis and the Eleusinian Mysteries
The Sanctuary of Eleusis is in modern-day Elefsina near Athens. From about 1500 BC it was dedicated to Demeter and her daughter Persephone and remained so while many female deities in sanctuaries in Europe were replaced by male counterparts in the late Bronze Age and Iron Age. Patricia outlined some of the rites associated with the Mysteries of the sanctuary.
Notes provided by Patricia have been circulated to members.
